The Advanced Welding Centre at the TMEC Centre of Excellence in South Burnie is the first of it’s kind in Australia specialising in providing training for both Australian Standards and International Welding Codes and Standards, as well as Australian Welder Certification Register (AWCR) Tickets 1-9.

  • Skills Training at the Centre to non-trade, trade and advanced trade levels using the latest augmented reality welding trainers from Europe as well as advancing to the Lincoln RealWeld system to allow welders to refine key skills in a controlled environment at the Advanced Welding Centre.
  • On-site Training and Assessment to the International ISO 9606-1 welding standards. Our Welding Supervisors are highly experienced and carry globally recognised qualifications including AS1796 Certification 10 and AS2214 Welding Supervision.

  • Weld Inspection is a crucial aspect of quality control and our inspectors are accredited as International Institute Welding Inspectors.

Why Start with Simulators?

Approved training, for everyone

The Advanced Welding Training Centre features five state-of-the-art portable welding simulators available for use by industry, schools, TAFE students and trainers to develop welding skills in a safe environment. TMEC are an approved Weld Australia certifier and are able to upskill existing staff as well as welding inspectors and supervisors.

Real welding experiences and feedback, made easy

The virtual-reality simulators mimic real welding experiences and are compatible with live welding equipment. They provide statistical feedback on weld quality, accuracy and comparative improvements in technique.

Investing in our future

A total of $650,000 has been invested by the Australian Government in establishing the welding training centre with a further $100,000 to ensure Tasmanian TAFE trainers have the skills and knowledge to deliver world-class training.

Frequently Asked Questions

TMEC can deliver a vast variety of welding services and training. From basic knowledge and beginner courses, Augmented reality training at school to trade levels, welder ISO 9606 certification and trade help, through to post-trade International Welding Inspector-Basic (IWI-B) and Welding Supervisor As 2214/1796. We can help develop welding procedures and consult on implementing ISO 3834, we deliver a Welder Pre-Screen validation for those with welding skills but no official qualification. Candidates gaining recognition of prior welding knowledge and gaining an industry specialists report on skill level.

We can certainly conduct training on-site. After consulting with our welding supervisor, a training plan can be drawn up to suit your company’s best needs and production schedules.

At present TMEC is not aligned with an RTO to deliver accredited training. However, we do deliver training on behalf of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) Authorized Nominated Body in Australia- Weld Australia. This partnership ensures that upskilling our welding industry remains current and pushes forward with conformity to International and National standards.

Our Welding Supervisor Kiah McCreadie currently holds the following qualifications:

  • Training and Assessment (TAE40116) qualification
  • International Welding Specialist
  • International Welding Inspector – Basic
  • Trade certificate – cert 3 Engineering – Fabrication
  • 16years of Industry experience and knowledge
  • Working With Vulnerable People Card
  • Mental Health First Aider
TMEC’s Welding Supervisors can consult and contextualise training to your business’s needs. Learners will see, use, and learn current workplace terms, documents and formats, and equipment relevant to a business’s systems. Ensuring a more valuable learning experience, whereby we can take everyday welding, break it down, use documents and equipment they have or will see, create confidence within the learners and eliminate unnecessary anxiety they may have around potential issues.
