Winners Announced at Women in Resources Tasmania Awards 2018

Finalists from across the State gathered at Government House in Hobart tonight where their outstanding achievements working to shape the future of Tasmania’s mining and resources sector were recognised.

Hosted by Her Excellency, the Governor of Tasmania, The Honourable Professor Kate Warner AC, the Awards recognise individuals and organisations working to build a world-class industry which provides attractive career opportunities for women and enhances the recognition, participation and advancement of women in the sector.

“The Tasmanian Minerals & Energy Council congratulates tonight’s award winners and finalists. The individuals and organisations recognised through these awards are an example of what can be achieved through hard work and dedication.

The benefits of gender diversity are many, including improved business performance. These awards contribute to increasing diversity by celebrating the ambassadors, mentors and role models instrumental in encouraging and supporting women in the sector,” said Wayne Bould, Chief Executive Officer.

Ted Bradshaw, Chairman, AusIMM Women in Mining Network Tasmania (WIMnet) said “The mining and resources sector has historically been perceived to be a ‘man’s domain’ with representation of women remaining low. While the drive for change continues to grow it’s important that we remain focussed on increasing representation of women in these industries. Tonight’s awards honour and celebrate those men and women who have contributed so richly to diversity in the resources sector in Tasmania.”

An independent judging panel considered each award submission before deciding finalists and winners.

Winners of all but the Exceptional Woman in a Non-Executive Role in Tasmanian Resources (which is a Tasmania specific category) will go on to represent Tasmania in National Awards in Canberra later this year.
